Keith’s Seafood & Poboys is considered a rice cooker convenience store, but it makes an effort to offer a wide variety of Southern Comfort Food. I went there to try their Crawfish Boudin. I’ve been on a search of the best Boudin in the area and although Keith’s Seafood & Poboys is not the best I’ve had, it is worth noting.
Slidell is a suburb of New Orleans, and I find myself over there (meaning the other side of the Lake Pontchartrain) from time to time. When you head north or towards the Gulf Coast, you drive right through Slidell on Interstate10. There are a few little dinning ges that I’ve discovered in the sleepy lakeside city and Keith’s Seafood & Poboys is one of them. Not to be confused with Kenney’s Seafood that is only a block away and is a favorite local Seafood Restaurant and Market. Keith’s Seafood & Poboys is take-out only, but offers outside seating and reasonable prices. They’re known for their Seafood Platters, Poboys, Chicken Specials, and their popular boiled side items. It’s not a big place or much to look at, but when you enter you immediately notice the boiled crab and crawfish that you can buy by the piece or pound. Down the line you will spot their famous turkey necks, pig’s feet and boiled sausage sitting in their sauces. The Crawfish Boudin was good, but the Pork Boudin was better. They were wrapped in foil and resting in a hot dog case. The daily Gumbo was delicious and the highlight of my lunch. Instead of the usual dark, reddish brown color of some Gumbo’s I’ve tried, this Gumbo was a deep green from the okra, peppers, celery and onions. The Gumbo was full of shrimp, chicken, sausage, and crab. The medium portion (16oz) is $4.99. Take a drive on over!
