Brown Butter is a fun place to eat, or just watch the game and have a drink at their friendly bar. We started late on a Sunday looking for Brunch and missed out on our earlier destination because most New Orleans restaurants stop serving brunch at 2 or 2:30. Luckily, Brown Butter serves until 3 and took a table for five with ten minutes to spare. We had a wild ride over in my trusty Toyota and soon arrived at the discreet Carrollton location. Brown Butter is not easy to spot because it is set back on a corner strip mall, but there is a parking lot that is quite handy. Brown Butter does not boast interesting architecture, but the food and service quickly make you forget that is looks a bit like California or Oregon. They had a table set for us in the center of the restaurant and our waiter was good humored and efficient. We ordered the $3 Mimosas, but they also serve $7 Bloody Mary’s at Brunch. Be prepared for perfected southern flavors and traditional Cajun and Low country cuisine.
We shared the fried pickles with Buttermilk Dill Sauce starter. I’m getting used to the idea of fried pickles. In fact, I think I actually like them. The breadbasket with biscuits and corn bread that also had jam and deliciously flavored butters (cane sugar and pecan) on the side was perfectly comforting. Such exciting flavors and good baking made for a satisfying start for a group of hungry and hung over guests. I ordered the Fried Green Tomato and Crab Benedict. It was supremely delicious. Everyone seemed to enjoy their choices which were either the Traditional Benedict or The Rusty Screen door Benedict with is served with Smoked Brisket, a biscuit, pimento cheese, fried egg, Sawmill gravy, green tomato and sweet corn chow chow. Wow! All had a wonderful time, and the bill came to about $36 each including tip. I will return for dinner and lunch soon. Also, soon after my first dinning experience at Brown Butter, they sent me a $5 off coupon on my next visit.
