I like Lüke. The location in the Hilton Hotel on St. Charles Avenue in the Central Business District is perfection. Louisiana’s own celebrity chef and owner John Besh, named Lüke after one of his sons and his plan for this eatery was to offer a Franco-German brasserie that harkened back to the immigrant roots of New Orleans. Since opening in 2007, Lüke has continually been praised by such publications as Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and The Times Picayune, which tout Lüke’s culinary show stoppers such as their Shrimp and Grits (Jumbo Louisiana Shrimp “En Cocotte”) made with roasted jalapeño cheese grits, andouille and green onion sausage ($24.00). Or the always delicious, Lüke Burger made with Allan Benton’s bacon, caramelized onions, tomatoes, Emmenthaler cheese and served with house-made fries ($16.50). The menu has changed a bit over the years, but they have honed it down to consistently great offerings with great service.
There is something urban and trendy about this hotel restaurant that I enjoy. It simply has a great atmosphere and customers enjoy sitting at the bar just as much as the tables. My favorite aspect of Lüke is the $.75 raw oysters and $1.25 fried oysters served during Happy Hour daily from 3pm-6pm. I’m an oyster lover and this is one of the best spots to enjoy great wine and all you can eat oysters with their fabulous horseradish dipping sauce. Chef John Besh nailed it with this Happy Hour that also offers half-price beers, cocktails, and wines by the glass. Lüke is popular, so make a reservation or get there early to stake your spot. I hope to see you there at Happy Hour.
