One of the highlights of any Thursday night on Frenchman Street in New Orleans, is stopping in to the Spotted Cat and listening to the delightful singing of Miss Sophie Lee.
Born and raised in Chicago, Miss Sophie Lee moved to New Orleans in 2001. Strongly connected to music and food, her roots are from a racially mixed background. Her mother was Korean and her father who was black has family in Mississippi and Tallulah, Louisiana.
Lee grew up studying classical piano and later took up guitar as a songwriter. After moving to New Orleans, she worked at a restaurant on Frenchmen Street and quickly dove in to the local jazz scene. The Spotted Cat became one of her first regular gigs. In August 2010 Miss Sophie Lee opened Three Muses, a restaurant and jazz club on Frenchmen Street. The partners who run Three Muses are Miss Sophie Lee who handles the music, Daniel Esses the food and Kimberly Patton Bragg the bar. They have a booming business and are finding new ways to expand.
Seoul Shack, a Korean Restaurant that Miss Sophie Lee started a few years back, will hopefully reopen in the future. They have a new spot but its on hold for right now. The Ms Moon’s Bulgogi Rice Bowl, however is always and forever available at Three Muses on Frenchmen. House made Kimchi too!
