Robin Barnes is a young vocalist with a powerful voice who’s infectious enthusiasm, and soulful interpretation of jazz standards, lights up two of the swankiest hotel music venues in New Orleans each weekend.
While Robin’s multi-octave voice stands out at outdoor events such French Quarter Fest, Lafayette Square Concert series, and Jazz Fest, her uniquely personal and approachable style is a great fit for smaller lounges such as Windsor Court Hotel’s Polo Room and the iconic Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone on Royal Street. You can kick back, have a great cocktail, and hear familiar tunes performed with her unique songbird flair.
Robin comes from a family of musicians: her dad, Robino Barnes, plays bass and her brother, Desmian, is a trumpeter. Robin began singing in church, got her first paid gig with her brother’s band, the Soul Heirs, and went on to get her both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in business from the UNO while launching her own music career.
Robin was recently acknowledged as one of Gambit’s BestofNewOrleans.com 2014 class of 40 accomplished people under 40. She’s recognized not only as a singer and songwriter but also as the founder/CEO of a line of athletic clothes, Fit By You. With a passion for exercise, movement and healthful living inspired by her own sudden diagnosis of —and recovery from— kidney disease, Robin and her team created fun fitness gear in Carnival colors with slogans such as “Move Ya Brass” and “Throw Me Something Mister.”
About two years ago, Robin released her debut EP, titled Me, that features six soulful-pop songs. Me is available via download at her website robinbarnesmusic.com. The EP shows off her remarkable vocal range —and is a great preview for her forthcoming full-length album, debuting in late 2015.
For a fantastic experience, don’t miss seeing Robin Barnes live! She can be seen weekly at Hotel Monteleone from 5 – 8 pm on Fridays. Both Friday and Saturday nights you can catch her act from 9pm – 12 am at Windsor Court Hotel’s Polo Lounge.
