The Area

Enjoy the central location of Southern Comfort Bed & Breakfast.

The Land of The Bouligny Plantation

The area upriver, from the French Quarter, was once the land of 400 plantations that extended to Baton Rouge. The area is actually a collection of neighborhoods with some of the most architecturally diverse architecture in our country. Your Garden District B&B, Southern Comfort, was built on the land of the Bouligny Plantation; one of our rooms is named in honor of this history.

Take a Ride Through History on the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar Line

The famous St. Charles Avenue within, 2 blocks of our door, is home to the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line and is a ride through history. Hop on the streetcar heading to the Carrollton Neighborhood and view the grand homes of the avenue nestled amongst 200-year-old live oaks. Jump off at Audubon Park and take a stroll under the gracious oaks past the Audubon Zoo, one of our nation’s best, to Butterfly Park and watch the mighty Mississippi float by.

Get Your Jazz fill at the Tulane’s Campus Jones Hall Jazz Archive

Tulane and Loyola Universities are directly across from Audubon Park. Stroll through Tulane’s campus and visit the Jazz Archive in Jones Hall. Jazz fans will find a display of photographs and artifacts, plus audio interviews with historic jazz musicians. Hop back on the streetcar and head downtown to the historical Garden District Neighborhood.

Take a Glimpse Into the Grand and Wealthy Life of Long Ago

The Garden District area was first settled by the Americans in 1803 after the Louisiana Purchase. During this  era , New Orleans  was one of America’s richest cities as they invented the cotton gin and also learned to granulate sugar, the South’s 2 most important crops. You will experience a glimpse of the grand and genteel life of long ago. Once you have explored it, head over to Magazine Street. Here you can browse an exciting collection of antique shops, offbeat clothing shops, fine boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and much, much more.

Convenient Central Location

We are only 2 blocks from St. Charles Ave and its world renowned streetcar, you have easy access to the Garden District , Tulane and Loyola Universities, the French Quarter, the  Morial Convention Center, and the vibrant shopping and nightlife of Uptown and Magazine Street.

With Southern Comfort Bed and Breakfast so centrally located, you can come back for a rest, maybe do some planning, change into different attire… whatever you might want before taking the streetcar to where more amazing times continue. Maybe this trip will be to the famous, and infamous, French Quarter only 2.6 miles away. No matter what your destination in our wonderful city, another memorable adventure awaits.
