Ever heard the term “drink like a fish?” The saying couldn’t be a better fit for next weekend’s premier event, Scales and Ales (Friday, Sept. 20th), an annual celebration benefiting the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. Partygoers mingle, eat, dance and drink among the Aquarium’s collection of 6,800 fish. The annual event, now in its 4th year, has brought in $350,000 since 2010 to support the aquarium’s conservation efforts and education programs.
At Scales and Ales, patrons enjoy Bites and Brews, including a wide selection of beers from local favorite Abita Beer, such as Purple Haze, Andygator, Jockamo IPA and their seasonal feature Satsuma Harvest Wit, in addition to wine and specialty cocktails. The drinks are a wonderful and welcoming counterpart to the delicious food served throughout the event.
More than 30 local restaurants also participate with offerings that run the gamut. These restaurants include the following, just to name a few: Acme Oyster House, Angelo Brocato Italian Desserts, Café du Monde, Chiba, Deanie’s Seafood, Galatoire’s, The Praline Connection, Royal House and VooDoo BBQ and Grill, plus many more local and national establishments.
