New Orleans is known for its jazz history and culture. We honor this historical Jazz culture with a celebration of New Orleans own, Louis Armstrong “Satchmo.” The New Orleans Satchmo Summer Festival is a free American Jazz festival put on by the French Quarter Festivals Inc. to celebrate the life and works of Louis Armstrong. Featuring free local New Orleans jazz, the Satchmo Festival will be held from August 4th-7th in the French Quarter, at the Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint, only steps away from the French Market.

Tales of the Cocktail New Orleans is a must for all those who love cocktails or want to experience the cocktail recipes and mixology New Orleans is famous for. Held from July 20-24 2011. With over 150 events, for experts and amateurs alike, there is sure to be plenty to do for all at this unique festival. This is much more than a celebration but also a great learning experience. There are seminars, competitions, tastings, dinner pairings and workshops. Tickets are limited.

Holiday Home Tour in the Garden District

New Orleans has some of the most amazing architecture in the world. As you travel about the city, your eyes are drawn to the homes and you’ll find yourself wondering what lays behind those front doors. The Holiday Home Tour is a great way to take a peek.Seven stunning Garden District homes, decorated for for the Christmas holiday will be open for viewing. There will also be a holiday boutique available with a variety of vendors selling local wares – great opportunity for a bit of Christmas shopping.
Festival of the Bonfires

One of the regions most enjoyed Christmas event is the Festival of the Bonfires in Lutcher. This is a short 45 minute ride from your Garden District lodging and will take place over the weekend of December 10th.
As the sun goes down, the call is made to light more than 100 wooden bonfires on both the east and west sides of the Mississippi River – a tradition that dates back to the 1880′s.
Po-Boy Preservation Festival

Get those napkins ready: The New Orleans Po-Boy Festival is scheduled for next weekend, November the 14th!
This festival was founded as a celebration of the local sandwich and the role it has played in New Orleans culinary culture. There’ll be three stages of music, an artist village, prizes and games at the children’s section, a po-boy history center, and without fail, the tastiest po-boys available in New Orleans. The festival is held on Oak Street and Carrollton Ave. Leave the car behind, it’s only a 20 minute streetcar from from Southern Comfort Bed and Breakfast.
