About The Inn

Experience pet-friendly lodging in New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood.

Built in 1910, the Southern Comfort Bed and Breakfast house is a center-hall cottage, raised above street-level. This beautiful belle was built on the land of the Bouligny Plantation. As a guest of our New Orleans inn, you will experience the warm hospitality of this world-class destination, where making visitors feel at home is our specialty. Your innkeeper is a native New Orleanian and is knowledgeable about many facets of the city: the architecture that delights the eyes, the food that tempts the palate, and the music that enlivens the soul. Whether it is conversation over breakfast, helping you map your route to your business appointments, finding that special place to dine, or suggesting a music venue, we love helping our guests make the most of their stay.

In the mid 1700’s there were some 400-sugar plantations that extended west from the city of New Orleans along the Mississippi River. These labor-intensive operations often required hundreds of workers to see the plantation through its crop lifecycle each year. Like all of the sugar-cane plantations in the area, the land gave way to “progress” once the plantation shut down: most of the homes in the New Orleans Uptown neighborhood are built on former sugar cane plantation lands.

After the 1910 home had matured into a well-loved building, the home was basically treated to a “cosmetic makeover” in preparation for its bed-and-breakfast life. In thoughtfully restoring the home to its original grandeur, we have captured the spirit of times gone by. These efforts help our guests feel as if they are not only staying in a room, but in a welcoming home. Guests enter the building through our front parlor: a sun-filled room that offers a place to relax in oversized couches as you browse through the books, tourist guides and magazines we have available for you. The front parlor is the perfect spot to revive yourself after a day of seeing the sights and preparing for a night on the town. We have many brochures about local points of interest and we are happy to help plan your day.

If you don’t want to leave your best four-legged friend behind when you travel, we are a wonderfully unique alternative to area pet-friendly hotels. Please inquire for pet policies when making your reservation.

I am a native of New Orleans who has traveled and worked throughout the world. My work in the Aerospace industry has taken me to an island in the middle of the South Atlantic to the seas of the Pacific. I enjoy scuba diving, under- and above-water photography, sailing, deep-sea fishing and cycling. In my travels, I am always ready to experience another culture and cuisine, which I’m sure comes from being raised in the diversity of Southern Louisiana.

After working and seeing a good bit of the world, I returned home to family and my native city. I bought a 100-year old home and started the work of remodeling it into what you see today: a lovely, charming and intimate New Orleans bed & breakfast guesthouse with period charm.

It gives me great pleasure to help guests plan and explore this amazing city. I usually spend an hour or so with my guests upon their arrival to show them the inn, talk about any special needs, and find out a little more about whether they need or want concierge assistance for their vacation. If so, I spend some time understanding their interests so I can point them in the right direction. I’m all about the food, music, culture and architecture of this unique city, and love sharing it. I take great pride in assuring that my guests have a most memorable stay.
