Despite the heat, New Orleans doesn’t slow down even in the summertime. July is especially packed with events that range from music and cocktail festivals to cultural and patriotic celebrations. Here are a few you won’t want to miss.
2015 Essence Festival (July 2-5)
The 2015 Essence Festival is revered for being one of the city’s top music festivals, and this year’s headliners feature major artists like Usher, Missy Elliott, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Troy “Trombone Shorty” and comedian Kevin Hart. But it is also an event that hosts an enormous panel of empowerment seminars and speakers from across the country, some of whom include Deepak Chopra and Kim Burrell.
4th of July (July 4)
Go 4th on the River is probably the best-known 4th of July celebration in the city. This year is the 25th annual event, and it will feature the beloved Dueling Barges Fireworks extravaganza over the Mississippi River. Downtown and the French Quarter are popular places to catch all the action, but you can see the fireworks from the other side of the river in Algiers on the Westbank as well.
Bastille Day Celebrations (July 11-13)
Bastille Day is a celebration of our integral French culture and kicks off with Bastille Day Fete, a free festival at the Spanish Plaza on Saturday along with a French Dog Contest. The fun continues with by a French Car Club Parade, the French Market Bartender and Waiters Race and the Alliance Francais French Cooking Class.
Tales of the Cocktail (July 15-19)
Tales of the Cocktail is an annual event that features—what else?—cocktails in its many forms, shared in a myriad of ways. Attendees can enjoy tastings, of course, but there are also product launches, seminars, competitions, networking events, and more, all in the name of getting in the spirit with spirits.
Don’t let the summer heat keep you away from visiting us when you have so many options for fun things to do when you visit this July.
