2014 French Quarter Fest Food Guide

A huge draw for the city and its tourism (and locals too of course), the food selection is world-class and exemplary of so much of what New Orleans has to offer. Restaurants from all over the city come together to create a superb menu that rivals any other festival food offerings on the planet.

In fact, there’s so much great food, it might be overwhelming for you to figure out which are the best eats to complement your festival experience. And we’re here at Southern Comfort B&B to help you sift through it all to find all the nom-noms you can handle.

Classics

You’ll never be without a host of classic New Orleans staples no matter what area of the festival you’re at. In Jackson Square, Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House has a Bourbon BBQ Shrimp Stuffed Po-boy, Galatoire’s has Shrimp Remoulade, K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen has K-Paul’s Famous Butterbeans and Rice and Court of Two Sister has Turtle Soup.

At the Old U.S. Mint, Café Reconcile has BBQ Shrimp and Grits and Crescent Pie and Sausage has Bad Bart’s Black Jambalaya. On the Riverfront, Barreca’s Restaurant has Louisiana Crawfish Etouffee and Chicken & Andouille Jambalaya, Desire Oyster Bar has Fried Oysters Rockefeller with Penne Pasta, Love at First Bite has a Cochon de Lait Po-boy and Original New Orleans Po-boys has a Fried Shrimp Po-boy, a Hot Sausage Po-boy and Jambalaya with Chicken & Sausage.

Seafood

It’s New Orleans—you can’t get enough seafood! And there are plenty notable plates to try. On the Riverfront, Royal House has Chargrilled Oysters and Oyster Pastries, Lakeview Harbor has an Alligator Sausage Kebab with Zydeco Sauce and Louisiana Blue Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce, GW Fins has Fish Tacos, Love at First Bite has Crawfish Pasta, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has Shrimp Cakes and a Cajun Shrimp Bowl, Broussard’s has Seared Bay Scallops and Barreca’s Restaurant has Crab & Shrimp Alfredo.

At the Jax Lot, Somethin’ Else Café has Shrimp Sliders and Jack Dempsey’s has Stuffed Crab with Baked Macaroni. At the Old U.S. Mint, Rouse’s has Hot Boiled Crawfish with all the Fixins’ and a Crawfish Family Platter. In Jackson Square, Tujague’s has Shrimp & Crabmeat Stuffed Merliton with Creole Sauce, Trey Yuen has Crawfish with Lobster Sauce, Muriel’s Jackson Square has Shrimp and Eggplant Stuffing, Court of Two Sisters has Crawfish Louise and Antoine’s has Oysters Bonne Femme and Shrimp Regua. You can also find renowned Crawfish Bread at Lakeview Harbor and Audubon Nature Institute, both on the Riverfront.

Nontraditional

One of the fun aspects of French Quarter Fest is also all of the different, nontraditional foods that local restaurants have put together—recipes you might not have ever thought of. At Jackson Square, Jacques-Imo’s Café has a Shrimp & Alligator Sausage Cheesecake and Muriel’s Jackson Square has Crawfish and Goat Cheese Crepes.

At the Old U.S. Mint, Dreamy Weenie’s has hotdogs like the Satchmo Dog, topped with Red Beans & Rice, and the Genchili Dog topped with Chili & Creole mix and Three Muses has Feta Fries, Lamb Sliders and a Bulgolgi Po-boy. At the Jax Lot, Somethin’ Else Café has an Alligator Corndog. On the Riverfront, The Praline Connection has Grilled Chicken Livers with Sweet Hot Pepper Jelly, Audubon Nature Institute has a Pork Chop Lollipop, Broussard’s has Smoked Duck & Mushroom Strudel and Red Fish Grill has Duck & Mushroom Gumbo.

Desserts

And to top it all off, how about some dessert? At Jackson Square, Antoine’s has Baked Alaska with Chocolate Sauce, Crepes a la Cart has a variety of crepes and Haydel’s Bakery has White Chocolate Kingcake Bread Pudding and a Large Chocolate Éclair. At the Old U.S. Mint, Café Reconcole has Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. In the Jax Lot, Loretta’s Authentic Pralines has an assortment of praline desserts.

On the Riverfront, Boucherie has Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding, Broussard’s has Bananas Foster, Desire Oyster Bar has New Orleans Style Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce and GW Fins has a Pontchatoula Strawberry Short Cake. Plus of course, you can find the beloved snoball from Plum Street Snoballs booths all across the festival grounds.
