The Carousel Bar and the historic Hotel Monteleone are an oasis of class and sophistication that New Orleans is famous for. This establishment has been owned by the same family for the last 125 years! The hotel offers both a sense of heritage and a luxurious feeling. The welcoming lobby is filled with sparkling chandeliers and a wonderful 1909 grandfather clock.
Located on the first floor is the infamous Carousel Bar, mentioned as a setting in many pieces of literature, including Ernest Hemingway. A favorite of many local New Orleanians, it is decorated in a wild circus motif and is often filled with local characters. The bar itself actually revolves around the bartenders.
Like anything else you need a local’s insight for a good experience. Your New Orleans Bed and Breakfast, Southern Comfort, suggests that you avoid the 5 o’clock rush. How much you enjoy this place is all about timing. Try going around 4pm so that you’ll be able to get a seat at the bar. And do try some of our local cocktail classics like a Ramos Gin Fizz, Pimm’s Cup or the Sazarac.
This is a one of the kind place. Do enjoy!
