One of the highlights for an Innkeeper’s is to have their guests just about lick their plates clean at breakfast. These favorite recipes will do that!
The number one winner is “Creme Brulee French Toast”. There are many versions of this but I have found this to be easy, quick and very very tasty.
The recipe calls for a round loaf of country style bread, but our french bread works well.
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbs corn syrup
1 loaf French bread, cut in half inch slices
5 large eggs
1 ½ c half and half
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp Grand Marnier
¼ tsp salt
Melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup. Stir till smooth. Pour into 13-by 9-by 2 inch baking dish. Arrange bread slices on top.
Whisk all other ingredients and pour over bread mixture. Chill at least 8 hours.
Bake uncovered until puffed and edges are golden brown. 35 to 40 minutes. Cut into 6 servings. I flip the pieces over so that the caramel side is up.
ENJOY!
Number two favorite is the “Apple Puffed Pancake.”
1 cup whole milk
4 lg eggs
3 tbs sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup flour
1/2 stick butter
2 0r 3 apples , peeled, cored and thinly sliced
Preheat oven to 425. Melt butter in 13 x 9 glass baking dish. place apple slices in overlapping rows atop melted butter. Bake until apples soften , about 10 minutes.
Mix all ingredients except for the flour and whisk together. I find that the batter is less lumpy if you add a small amount of the batter to a portion of the flour and mix separately. Pour back into the mixture and continue this until all the flour has been added.
Pour batter over apple slices. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serves 6.
